If you plan to play squash for NCHS or would like to learn more about playing squash at NCHS,

High School Squash Nationals for 2021-22

SAVE THE DATE!  US Squash has announced that the 2021-22 High School Nationals will be held from February 25-27 at Spector Center in Philadelphia.

New Canaan Squash will be represented by one boys team and one girls team with 8 players each.

NCHS Squash Program Goals

The primary goals for the NCHS squash teams are to provide advanced coaching with an increased focus on strategy, physical and mental fitness and team dynamics in order for players to maximize their potential in pursuit of success in league matches and tournaments, including the US High School Team Squash Championship. Our secondary goal is to provide professional coaching for new participants as well as more advanced professional coaching for intermediate and advanced players to help all players improve their performance throughout the season.

All players are expected to adhere to the New Canaan Squash, Inc. Code of Conduct.



NCHS SQUASH TEAM GENERAL INFORAMTION

  • ​​​​Squash is a winter sport at NCHS (with pre and post season clinics)
  • Squash is open to students attending NCHS
  • Squash is a varsity club sport, sanctioned by NCHS and US Squash.
  • NCHS Squash Teams compete in the FairWest Public School Squash  League and also in matches against Independent schools and other non-league teams. Top NCHS teams also compete in US High School Team National Championships.
  • Squash practices take place at Chelsea Piers in Stamford. 
  • Squash receives some funding from the Athletic Department, which only covers part of the cost, therefore there is a fee to participate.  Parents provide transportation to practices and matches.

US SQUASH REGISTRATION OR MEMBERSHIP AND REFEREE EXAM

REQUIRED TO PLAY:
US Squash is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization which serves as the only national governing body and membership organization for the sport in the United States. Founded in 1904 and headquartered in New York City, it is a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee, the Pan American Squash Federation and the World Squash Federation.

As a member of the New Canaan High School Squash Team, you must
 Register (no fee) yourself AND a parent on US Squash
and
Complete the Referee Exam ($45)

If you will be competing in US Squash Tournaments (highly recommended) OR if you will be going to Nationals,
you will have to purchase a US Squash paid membership.

US Squash accredits and supports a calendar of junior tournaments throughout the country. Tournaments are structured into several levels, each designed to offer competitive opportunities for all ages and levels.

Chelsea Piers Squash Safety Protocols

*NCHS Squash will be drop off only

*All parents will be required to sign a daily health declaration (procedure TBD)

*Bring squash bag with racquets, goggles, squash shoes, water bottle, hand towel and hand sanitizer (borrowing of equipment will not be available)

*Enter by CP front door with MASK on Follow floor marking to get to squash courts

*Enter squash by front doors by the ice rink. Players will be required to sign in each day

*Proceed to designated court, put squash shoes on. Locker rooms not available (except for nature calls)

*Players will be required to wear masks on court. Hand sanitizer available before getting on court

*Players will be asked to exit the squash area immediately after squash session, no exceptions.
